Sport Bay of Plenty and Virtually on Track offer free family fun and a chance to win prizes this summer with Join the Gems and geo-teering.

Join the Gems and geo-teering are challenges you can complete in your own time, while being active and exploring the outdoors.

Bingo meets explorationwith Join the Gems.

Download a Join the Gems card and explore the Virtually on Track Gem sites in your local area until you find the iconic locations.

Once you find the spot shown on the card, take a photo/selfie to prove you have visited.  Keep exploring until you have a picture at each of the locations to form a horizontal line, or fill the card for a chance to win a bonus prize!

For full instructions and to download a card Visit http://www.virtuallyontrack.co.nz/jointhegems.  Printed cards and instructions are also available to pick up from Podium Podiatry and Footwear stores, information centres and holiday parks around the region.

Podium Podiatry and Footwear are the proud sponsors of the Join the Gems spot prizes and we are extremely grateful for their support.

Another activity to try this summer is geo-teering, an exciting combination of treasure hunting, orienteering and geocaching that utilises GPS technology via your mobile phone.

Using clues and coordinates, geo-teering courses provide a chance for you to discover, explore and connect with some of the stunning areas of natural beauty across the Bay of Plenty. It's suitable for all ages, can be done at your own pace and best of all - it's free!

You'll be on the lookout for markers and each marker will have a word on it. Once you've found all the markers use the words to fill in the blanks of a sentence related to the gem site you're exploring. For instructions visit www.virtuallyontrack.co.nz/geoteering.

Virtually on Track is a collaboration between DOC, Sport BOP and Sport NZ to bring an innovative approach to adventure sport and recreation in the Bay of Plenty.  The project focuses on eight amazing sites called gems. Virtually on Track utilises technology and social media to create exciting new ways to explore and play in your local gem site.
