Win a double pass to Grant Bullot's Concerbition on August 27
Take one part exhibition, one part concert, mix vigorously and what you get is one fabulous evening of art and music in Te Puna this weekend.
Musician and artist extraordinaire Grant Bullot prud to present Song’s From the Fire Pit Concerbition at the Te Puna Hall just off State Highway 2 this Saturday from 7.30pm.
A co-founder of Tauranga musical institution Kokomo and one hell of a harmonica player, Grant is also a renowned artist who is well-known for his work on corrugated iron.
Grant says this upcoming Concerbition will feature about 40 portraits he’s created of his musical buddies as part of his Songs From the Fire Pit series'.
“The series celebrates my musical friends really, people I’ve jammed with over the years and hold a huge amount of respect for who have inspired me too,” he explains.
“I started in the obvious places, there’s portarits of the lads from Kokomo, Brilleaux, John Michaels, Robbie Laven, there’s also a couple of my wife [Kokomo trumpet player] Sonia.
“Some will be on corrugated iron, the rest will be on canvas blocks. I’m also hoping to have some video footage to tie in with the art, the whole idea behind the evening is to mix it all up.”
While art lovers can peruse Grant’s works, on the night they’ll also be treated to performances from Brilleaux, The Packhouse Experience, The Little River Boys plus members of Kokomo.
Word on the street is Grant will also be on the mic and singing up a storm.
“Ha, yeah I will be. This’ll be an occasion where I’ll be singing a couple of songs and strum away on a guitar, so that’ll be a bit of fun.”
Grant says this Saturday’s concerbition is likely to be one, if not the last event held in the Te Puna Hall before it is demolished to make way for a roundabout.
"That was partly behind the decision to hold it at the hall, but more than that, I love it as a venue. It’s been fantastic for entertainment, there’s been some really great shows in there,” says Grant.
The Songs From the Fire Pit Concerbition – The Art and Music of Grant Bullot takes place at Te Puna Hall this Saturday, from 7.30pm. Tickets cost $10 and are available online from Eventfinda.
