Aquinas College to finals

Aquinas College primary boys cricket team, will represent Bay of Plenty at the ND NZ Post Cup Finals, to be played at Bruce Pulman Park in Manurewa 30/31 March 2016.

Aquinas College won their way through five rounds of qualifying play and two games of post section play, to earn the right to represent the region at the ND Finals for the first time.

Aquinas laid down the gauntlet to the other Bay of Plenty contenders, when they played Otumoetai Intermediate in round two.

Troy Schneebeli smashed an unbeaten 107 to share an undefeated opening stand of 179 runs with Spencer Wills, who finished on 50 not out as their team posted 179 without loss, before bowling the opposition out for 60 runs.

In round three, National Primary School cricket champions Tauranga Intermediate provided Aquinas with their only defeat of the 2016 NZ Post Cup.

Aquinas batted first and was removed for 57, with the Tauranga representatives reaching their target for the loss of three wickets.

Aquinas College reached the Bay of Plenty tile decider after defeating Mount Maunganui Intermediate.

The Mount boys posted 99/6, with Aquinas getting home for the loss of a solitary wicket. Troy Schneebeli top scored with 52 runs with Spencer Wills finishing on 27 not out.

With their first ND NZ Post Finals berth within sight, Aquinas batted first against Tauranga Intermediate and posted a solid 120 for the loss of four wickets. Spencer Wills led his team with an unbeaten 43 with Brayden Dew finishing with 30 runs to his name.

Three wickets bags by Troy Schneebeli and Brady Jones, played a big part in Aquinas bowling their opponents out for 90, to claim the Bay of Plenty NZ Post crown for the first time.

In other NZ Cricket Schools competitions, Tauranga Intermediate girl's team, face a sudden death playoff against either the Northland or Counties Manukau regional winner, with the victor advancing to the NZ Post Shield National Final in term four.

Tauranga Girls College have qualified for the NZCT Secondary Schoolgirls Northern Districts Final, with Taupo-nui-a-Tia who finished second in the Bay of Plenty qualifier losing to Hauraki Plains.

The Gillette Cup T20 playoffs, saw Aquinas College win the Bay of Plenty qualifier before being eliminated in the ND T20 semi-finals.

Mount Maunganui College, John Paul College, Western Heights High School, Bethlehem College and Trident High School were the other schools that contested the Bay of Plenty leg of the qualifying series.
