New Zealanders' real wages will fall for the next two years as the cost of living outpaces forecast pay rises, says Leader of the Opposition Andrew Little.
New Zealanders have been doing it tough for far too long. They expect to get a real pay rise after years of belt tightening says Andrew.
National is going to have to look middle New Zealand in the eye and tell them that's not going to happen.
'The Budget projections show that real wages will actually fall in 2017 and 2018 as wage growth will be outpaced by inflation.
'Most New Zealanders believe that if you work hard you will get a fair share of the rewards. Under National that's not going to happen. Kiwis are going backwards.
'This Government is focused on those at the top while most New Zealand families miss out. We need a real plan that will deliver higher wages for middle New Zealand,” says Andrew.

Just finished updating our budget since our 1 April superannuation increase. The total increase in living costs is $432.40. Certainly worse off.

So, if the over greedy bosses (normally the major companies) refuse to pay a worker a reasonable wage no-one should bother??? We all see company profits soaring, high executive pay rises and nothing, or close to it, for the workers. What say the government do something simple and legislate for all workers to get the same percentage pay rise as their CEO

About wages,I read an article about the difference between wages in Europe and NZ. In Europe it is hard to get rich, and hard to get poor.In NZ it is easy to get rich, and easy to get poor. It shows it everywhere.

The award wage system was what the MINIMUM someone could pay you. The govt did not decide WHAT your boss paid you because he could pay your MORE than the award wage. 2 competing companies one paid crap the other good. IKnow where do you you think all the employeees will go? Yep to the higher paying one. No Govt involvement there ah mate. Thank god we are not in the 80s.
It is different now

Back then there was little unemployment and so the worker could change jobs easily with not too much problem. Now with hundreds turning up to apply for jobs sadly the choice to move is not so simple and because of the demend for jobs very few bosses are paying well. It is "take it or leave it".

You are both in a sence missing the mark foreign ownership is not only restricted to housing they have confidently consumed assets in various industries employing there nationals in greater volumes than locals and yes with the attached STIGMA ,lack of education by some allows this to festate. Little and every other politican have had significant wage rises in some cases the increase greater than some incomes, another very recent example of CEO rip offs Theo Speirs Fontera lays off 750 staff rewards HIMSELF with a $ 750k bonus.local council another example.. Littles, Keys free lunches transport travel gym membership housing supplements and the list goes on telling middle class NZ how we have to LIVE to fund THEIR EXTRAVAGANT lifestyles. DICTATORS!. Another step toward the one world government tpp etc all part of big pict.
