Mountie gets Mainstreet job

The new Mount Maunganui Mainstreet manager knows her patch.

Ingrid Fleming has lived in the Mount for the last six years herself, and says her parents lived in nearby Victoria Road for 34 years.

Mount Mainstreet Board chairperson Jane Debenham announced Ingrid's appointment last week.

Ingrid comes from developing and growing a successful event business in Taupo. With strategic planning, business development and marketing experience, she was then contracted to ASB Baypark as business manager and manager for special events, where she was a pivotal part of the team that brought the world's first Jetsprints event to be held at a Stadium.

Ingrid then marketed Baypark Family Speedway where the seasons highlight was 7500 spectators attending the Demolition Derby & FMX within the ASB Stadium, and was again contracted to the Jetsprint event - the Jetsprint World Championship held at Baypark Stadium in January this year.

'I'm absolutely thrilled to be undertaking this fundamental role for Mount Mainstreet,” says Ingrid.

'I feel very privileged to be surrounded by a great bunch of people passionate about their businesses and their unique village.

'Having lived in the Mount for the past six years I've had huge interest in what's been going on in Mount Mainstreet. There's been some great work done here. As far as I'm concerned, everyone needs to know about this amazing place and what it has to offer.

'I'm very much looking forward to the challenges ahead, creating new and exciting reasons for people to come to a world class destination and really looking forward to working with and for my new Mount Mainstreet family.”

The Challenges Ahead

Welcome Ingrid. And good luck dealing with your new masters at Tauranga city. Because words are a vital part of the local bureaucracy you must learn to choose them carefully. Referring to the Mount as a "village" is far too parochial and does fit with the current ideology of Tauranga being a great metropolis - home to museums, art galleries, multiple lighted sports grounds, etc. etc. If you wish to succeed in local politics in this city Ingrid you need to start dreaming on a grander scale. Best wishes...

words written with knowledge and thought, I like your cynicism, and totally agree.
