Centre to close for maintenance

The Whakatāne Aquatic & Fitness Centre will be closed to the public for scheduled maintenance from July 25 to August 7.

The closure will allow for the pools to be drained, cleaned and tiling repairs to be made. A major redesign of the reception area will also start, as well as the servicing of existing equipment.

Whakatāne District Council Aquatics and Recreation manager Garner Gulliver says while frustrating for regular users, it will provide the time required to carry out essential maintenance and upgrade work at the facility.

'We apologise to customers for any disruption to their planned fitness activities, but look forward to offering an improved level of service once this essential maintenance is completed,” says Garner.

'The closure has been timed to avoid the busy school holiday period, and falls in the first two weeks of the new school term, to ensure that the impact on learn to swim programmes is minimised.”

The pools will be completely emptied for cleaning and any repairs that may need to be undertaken.

The council will also use the opportunity to deep clean the plant room, water filters and automation systems.

'The Fitness Centre will also receive an overhaul, with cleaning and maintenance work planned. The gym equipment will be fully serviced and cleaned before being reinstated.”

Garner notes the closure period also allows time for Aquatic and Fitness Centre staff to take part in training and team building activities.

The Aquatic Centre will be closed to the public from July 25 to August 7, while the Fitness Centre will be closed to all users from July 25 - 31.
