Second car in fatal crash found

Police are talking to the occupants of a white car alleged to have been linked to the fatal crash near Hamilton Airport last week.

Hamilton CIB Detective Senior Sergeant Daryl Smith, who is leading the investigation, says police have identified the driver and occupants of a white car believed to have travelling with a white Nissan Skyline, which collided with a van on State Highway 3 near Hamilton Airport last Friday.

Waipa locals Lance Robinson, 28, Hannah Lei Strickett-Craze, 24, Paul De Silva, 20 and 19-year-old Jason McCormick Ross, of Taranaki, were killed in the crash.

Police are questioning two occupants of the third mystery white car in the horror crash that killed four people and left one person in hospital with serious injuries.

The driver and occupants were taken into police custody this morning after police pleaded with the driver of the car, seen in the area at the time of the crash, to come forward.

It's understood at the time of the crash the Skyline crossed the centreline and crashed into an oncoming Hamilton Plumbing Company van, seriously injuring the driver.

Daryl says the driver of a red car that stopped at the crash scene has also contacted police and been interviewed.

Police would like to thank the public for all of their assistance in this investigation so far.

However, they would still like to speak with anyone who may have more information.
