Talking about Tauranga’s civic heart

The community will have the opportunity to discuss the proposed changes to Tauranga City Council's Long Term Plan with Elected Members at a series of community events.

As part of public consultation on creating Tauranga's civic heart, councillors will be making themselves available to talk about the proposed plan.

Councillors are making themselves available to talk to members of the public about the proposed changes to Tauranga City Council's Long Term Plan.

Mayor Stuart Crosby encourages people to come along to the community days and discuss the proposed changes to the Long Term Plan with Elected Members.

'We hope to gather feedback from as many residents as we can at these community days. Consultation on the proposed Amendment to the Long Term Plan is your opportunity to be part of the decision making,” says Stuart.

'We really want to engage as many people in our community as we can and hear their views.” Submissions can be made using the online submission form at www.tauranga.govt.nz/ltpa or by downloading the form from the same page.

The Proposed Amendment to the Long Term Plan 2015-2025 Consultation Document is available online as a PDF and as an e-book.

Hard copies of the Consultation Document and submission form are also available in Tauranga City Libraries and from Council's Customer Service Centre on Willow Street.

Public consultation closes 5pm Monday, July 18. Tauranga City Council has been working on a project to resolve issues with its current office accommodation.

In response to community feedback in the 2015-2025 Long Term Plan, this work has broadened to include consideration of other projects with potential to create a civic heart for Tauranga.

Council is proposing to invest $68.6 million during the next four years to build a new civic administration building with surrounding open space on its Willow Street site, and $2.5m to transform Masonic Park into a civic square.

It's also proposing to set aside funding to explore the feasibility of a museum, the best solution for providing fit-for-purpose library services in the city centre, and new 1000-1200-seat performance venue on the site.

Elected Members and Council staff will be at the following locations:

Shopping Centre Thursday, June 30, 9am to 5pm
Seriously Good Food Show Saturday, July 2, 10am to 5pm
Papamoa Plaza Wednesday, July 6, 9am to 4pm
Fraser Cove (The Warehouse) Thursday, July 7, 10am to 2pm

We are already in debt for hundreds of millions of dollars and the ratepayers are struggling already. As seen around the world we are sick of officials that ignore us. This sort of thing is nice when you have a good economic situation but this is not the time. FIX THE OLD BUILDING and stop messing around OR come election time the people WILL speak and you may not like the message they send. Never mind public submissions as you know most do not take part. Give us a referrendum to decide, or are you afraid of the result?

But seems as usual that the Councilors have got themselves distanced from reality and so the public view and opinions here, the result being a gold plated cotton wool view of the world no matter what they try else to do.

Hmmmm

Let's hope that all of the pensioners are beneficiaries give the councillors a hard time. Unfortunately I have to work up six days a week to earn enough money to live in Tauranga now, mainly due to rates increases of course. But they have got one weekend day available...... I presume that we will need to pay an entry fee to be able to confront our councillors on this day though! Some of us 10 - 12 hours days, but the councillors go home at 2pm, MARVELLOUS!
