Police warn of flooding on SH2

The heavy rain in the Bay of Plenty is keeping emergency services busy with reports of flooding near Moffat Road and State Highway 2.

A witness has called to say there was some 'serious flooding” near the roundabout. Reports have also come in of flooding into buildings.

New Zealand Transport Agency has also sent out a statement advising motorists of flooding on SH2 between Waihi Rd Bridge and Moffat Rd roundabout, Bethlehem.

Police are advising motorist to avoid the area if possible and drive to the conditions.

Meanwhile some homes in Papamoa have reported flooding due to the heavy rain.

Fire northern communications shift manager Jaron Phillips said multiple buildings on Simpson Rd had reported flooding and the fire service were in attendance.

Metservice is predicting heavy rain to hit Tauranga about 6pm tonight, with 12.3mm forecasted to fall.
