Heights set for shield challenge

The Bethlehem Coach Lines feature match has Otumoetai College travelling to Rotorua for their first crack at the Te Kani shield since 2014.

With Western Heights High School in devastating form this season, Saturdays challenge will be a huge task for an injury depleted Otumoetai squad.

Western Heights High School's Brodie Wood.

Otumoetai have called up the promising Bay of Plenty Under 16 trialist Alatina Lameko to fill the ranks of the front row but he will have his hands full against the experienced prop TJ Scheepers.

The coaching staffs of Jamie Brown and Jamie Davies know that the task ahead will test their boy's character and attitude but with the Te Kani Shield at stake motivation is not a problem.

Western Heights on the other hand have a team full of Bay of Plenty age grade trialists who are keen to impress selectors in the lead up to the representative camps being held at Blake Park on July 11 and 12.

Heights will not be taking the game lightly as they reflect on last season when they lost the shield in a game they were meant to have won easily.

Steve Smith the Western Heights head coach commented they would not be making the same mistake twice.

The Game will be played at Western Heights School No.1 field at 12pm.
