$44k divvied out to Bay charities

Z Energy have been left humbled by the extraordinary support from the community for this year's Good in the Hood campaign.

A total of $44,000 was donated by the company to 44 charity groups across the Bay of Plenty, with each receiving a percentage of the $4000 up for grabs from Z's 11 sites which stretch from Bethlehem through to Ōpōtiki.

The $4000 from each site is divided between the community groups based on the number of votes made by Z customers during the voting period which ran during the month of May.

Z Energy spokesperson Kim Gillies says on top of the $4000, each site was also allocated an extra $1000 by Z to donate or use in wages to give time to a charity or charities throughout the year.

'Our team in Awakeri won an incentive for our region where they will get a day paid to work off site with a group of their choice which is super exciting,” says Kim.

'What is most interesting is that though the funding is great, what our groups find even more beneficial is the exposure that Good in the Hood creates.”

Kim explains a benefit of the campaign is that the 44 groups become more recognisable to the community which can help drum up support and much needed volunteers.

On behalf of Z Kim would like to thank all of the groups' representatives who took part having fun on the sites forecourts washing windows and getting their names out there.

'In this fast paced life we are now living, it is really important to identify how much good is happening on a grass roots level in our Bay of Plenty community.”

Since 2012, Z Energy has run the Good in the Hood campaign and gives away more than $1 million each year.
