Man's body found on beach

UPDATED 1.10PM:Tauranga Police have named the man found dead on the Main Beach at Mount Maunganui beach this morning.

He was Benjamin Christopher Dahlkamp, a 45-year-old from Tauranga. Police are continuing to provide support to Mr Dahlkamp's family.

EARLIER:

1230PM: Tauranga Police have identified the body of the man who was found on Mt Maunganui's Main Beach this morning.

Next of kin have been notified and Police will release the identity of the person once further family members have been notified.

The body was seen by a member of the public in the surf this morning.

In a statement, police say they were alerted by the member of the public to the man, described as being in his mid-40s, in the surf between Leisure Island and the main Mount beach just before 8am.

The man's body has now been removed from the beach.

Police say further details will be released once the information is available.

UPDATED 9AM: Police officers have now removed the body of a man found washed up on Mount Maunganui main beach this morning.

The man's body was discovered at the waterline directly in front of the toilet block on Marine Parade at about 8am.

The man's body was discovered at the waterline directly in front of the toilet block on Marine Parade at about 8am.

Police are at the scene and the body is covered by a tarpaulin. SunLive understands a member of the public found the body.
