Tauranga bar says Pokémon No

Local Pokémon Go hunters are in a quandary over a ban laid down by Tauranga bar Krazy Jack earlier this week.

While some plan to challenge the ban made on social media and descend on the unwelcoming bar this Friday night, others say they'd rather go to nearby bars that supports Pokémon Go players.

Tauranga bar Krazy Jacks describes its ban on Pokémon Go players from the establishment as a ‘brilliant marketing scheme'. Photo: File

On Tuesday the bar posted to its Facebook page: ‘Krazy Jacks would like to announce that it is a Pokémon free zone anyone caught playing Pokémon go will be told directly to f*** off. The drinking age is set to 18+ because apparently at this age you are responsible enough. Playing Pokémon at this age tells us your [sic] still an immature t***. Thank you and have a nice day'.

The bar then upset a number of people by replying to one person's comment on the post by referring to a sexual act in a derogatory manner meant to demean the person.

The offending post has since been deleted and Krazy Jacks quickly backtracked on its initial post, claiming it to be a ‘brilliant marketing scheme to get everyone's attention'.

To combat what has potentially been a publicity stunt, Tauranga Pokémon Go players are planning to party there this Friday just to prove they can't be pushed around, according to their Facebook page.

But a number of players have mixed thoughts.

'In all honesty just let them be and do what they want. Stooping to the level of theirs is no point. We have the support from Corner Stone and others. One bar isn't going to make a difference.” says one comment.

Another asked if they had to be a regular customer in the first place in order to properly boycott something.

'Cause I'm keen to continue not going there, but it seems like a lot of effort to start going back so that I can boycott them,” says the post.

While one player says for a 'bar to be dumb enough to use bad publicity as a marketing stunt is just silly”.

Krazy Jacks describes itself as a 'metal bar that likes to keep it suitably metal and offensive”, and is taking a different approach to marketing in a Pokeman world.

Pokéstops are commonly found in selected places such as historical markers, monuments, or art installations. There are several stops on The Strand which players can access from surrounding businesses.

Some Tauranga establishments are chasing the Poke-dollar and have labelled themselves ‘Pokémon Go friendly'.

While Fairfax reports some businesses are investing in Pokémon lures and placing them on Pokéstops near their businesses to attract customers. ‘Lures' attract wild Pokémon to Pokéstops for a limited time.

zombies

ignorant , antisocial, self centered , irresponsible zombies, wandering the streets, going wherever they are remotely directed, a retailers dream, and an even bigger financial coup for the controller. Just proves how relatively easy it is to control the mindless masses. so engrossed in their stupid little ethereal digital world that they forget that some people actually prefer to think and expand their mind instead of allowing some corporation in Asia lead them around by their collective noses. So now instead of blindly walking around all over town banging into other people and wandering blindly into traffic they are going to descend on Krazy Jacks to protest their "right" to act like a 5 year old.... I wonder how many of these morons are decision makers at TCC.

Well said Crazy Jack

Quite right. It's bad enough watching people texting in bars because they have no social skills or manners. Now we have morons chasing little creatures. Well done whoever invented it and is swimming in cash right now. Candy from babies. Only a matter of time before a moron is creamed by a car because they are looking at their phone. Mmm..there's an idea for a game..

Not for me, but....

I am not a fan nor a participant, but if that's how people want to spend their time, and if it doesn't have an impact on anyone else, then why not? I see more anger against Pokemon Go players than meth cooks. Yeah sure it looks daft, but they are old enough to make their own decisions.

There is a theory that aliens are already exerting influence on Earth, and are dumbing down the inhabitants before launching an all out attack. Mission Control, we are GO for launch.

It's a craze.

In 5 or 10 years it will be part of cyber history just like PacMan or Pong. You can argue that ANY activity people indulge in as "leisure" is a "waste of time" inasmuch as it doesn't directly increase productivity, but we do not live by bread alone and everything we do does not have to have a purpose or a point. I'm wondering if Krazy Jack's should update their self-description from "metal" to "mental"...

Go Krazy jacks

The biggest issue at stake here is that of private property rights! Krazy jacks SHOULD have the right to ban whoever they want from their premises. Only the politically correct and the zombie generation of today who have been brought up believing they cant be discriminated against, or have the right to behave any way they wish on other peoples property, or make them comply with their demands because they think they have the right to do so. My business, my rules. Don't like them? Go somewhere else (or in Krazy Jacks words F#*k off.)

rugby is even more ridiculous

There are more people on this planet who think our "national game" is even more ridiculous....30 men engaging in what appears inappropriate male-on-male behavior, for 80 minutes on grass. Played seriously in a very few countries.

Not Surprised

Staff at the local poser bar don't know the difference between "you're" and "your". Besides, there's not much of a crossover between pokemon nerds and wannabe punks, so this is just a weak grab for attention.

Businesses have rights too - or should have

Posted on 22-07-2016 17:23 | By The Tomahawk Kid

What I would like to know is "When did it become illegal for businesses to decline admittance to their establishment of undesirable patrons?" They used to be able to ban patches, or jandals or black jeans, or pushchairs or babies even. When did private business lose the right to evict people whose behaviour was undesirable to the running or profitability of their business? Where is the law that says people can come on to your property and do anything they wish or force you to comply with THEIR wishes? When did somebody ELSES business become YOUR business? I reserve the RIGHT to tell people to F#*k off on my property and in my business -It is my RIGHT to do so there. ). Dont be bullied by the Politically correct morons out there. They want THEIR rights but deny you yours.

Really??

Cmon people. Its a privately owned bar. If you don't like their rules, don't go. Its kinda like someone not happy with the rules you have in your own home.

Bring back...

planking, I reckon... this is all too weird? Maybe it really is Darwins theory at work? I cant believe how gullible and easily led people are? It is prolly an experiment in thought control?

Thinking further...

If one of these zombies is watching their phone and trips over a bar stool... they will be trying to sue the owner of tha bar stool. If they step off a gutter and break a leg, whilst focussing on their phone... or step into some hazard or traffic... all will be fair game for a law suit.. except the zombie who wasn't watching where he/she was walking? So, I am on CJ's side... the fad will be over soon (hopefully) and the world might get back to abnormal soon (please) Stick to your guns Jack... don't let the turkeys get you down :)

Slow news day.....
