Chippy wants to nail thieves

Mark Kiwi moved into a new home in Golden Sands in Papamoa last week. But this week his trailer containing all his work tools was stolen from under his nose.

'And I can't work” says the chippie. 'I am pissed off, you work hard and look what happens.”

The trailer was parked in the driveway of Mark's new home overnight and this morning it was gone, stolen sometime between 7pm and 7am.

'It was just a little 1800 galvanised trailer. But it's distinctive. It has an angled lid – angling down to the front. And a couple of bars for carrying timber.” The registration is Z805l.

In the trailer was ”everything – everything a man needs to work with.” There were two nail gun, stacks of Makita batteries for all his power tools, a big hammer, Hitachi concreter drill. 'Everything” says Mark. 'And I can't work without that stuff.”

So there's no work today while Mark talks to the police and his insurance company. He bought the trailer a couple of months ago for $2500. And he values his tool at up to $4000.

If anyone saw something suspicious overnight or has seen the trailer since call the police or give Mark Kiwi a call on 021424437.

Seems to be a pretty common thing around Papamoa, we've had a trailer stolen also, similar circumstances. Also a 4WD full of tools. Don't expect any help from the police, they're completely useless.

Simple solution

Over a year ago when thieves were rife in Papamoa East (as the obviously still are) , I suggested a simple solution. While the area is still the largest cul-de-sac in NZ, there is an easy opportunity to install a camera on Papamoa Beach Road where every vehicles has to pass to leave the suburb. The police could then easily down-load footage and find vehicles that are towing unusual trailers at 3.00 in the morning, and investigate.

Good thinking

there are a number of cameras around the city but yes location would help and i advised this to happen some 10years ago

BRING IN THE CAMERA

Totally agree with the placing of a Camera at say, the Parton Road/Papamoa Beach Road Roundabout, It will certainly help the Police with Thefts but will also help catch the Mums with Children in the Car with a Cell Phone to the ear, as well as Dads, Contractors and Couriers,Its certainly about time the Police in Papamoa got out on the roads and a bit more active.

Unfortunately...

The cameras prolly aren't the best thing... any thief with more than half a brain will put the small trailer into a bigger trailer or truck... or, it is still in Papamoa. There are so many tracking devices for less than $50... they will text you if the trailer moves/leaves a set area/speeds.... tracking companies can see where your vehicle/possession is or what direction it was heading. Wheel clamp can be locked onto a wheel... the trailer can be locked to the vehicle. You can buy a tow coupling lock. We all know these scoundrels are about, we have to make it hard for them. An unsecured trailer in a driveway is a gift to them. Thieves make our lives hard... we need to make theirs hard too! What a shame we don't have vigilant neighbours now? Reckon Police will find a huge stash in Papamoa if they look

If they are apprehended.......

I really do hope (as the title suggests) the Chippy gets to "nail" the thieves... got plenty of gas in your gun?..I'll donate!

hearing about thefts of vehicles in Papamoa? Trailers, boats, caravans.... one cant leave a movable object overnight without some sort of deterrent... even a bunch of empty aluminium cans tied with string on the latch will cause noise if interfered with... or any of my previous suggestions. As I said, neighbours need to be vigilant? They used to be? I couldn't get away with anything when I was a kid. For Papamoa to be hit so often, it makes sense that the thieves are WITHIN Papamoa... Might be time for neighbours to get together and start reporting suspicious movements and fitting cameras of their own. For that trailer to have been moved without anyone noticing, it must have been covered/inside another vehicle.... or it is still in Papamoa? Papamoans need to keep their eyes peeled and communicate amongst each other, make it an area 'too hot to hit'

A very sensible suggestion. It could certainly do no harm and it might catch some of these callous low-lifes.

You are 100% right that communities need to work together to stop crimes like this. The Police can't do it on their own; they need information and support. And it is also an unfortunate fact that the days when you COULD leave things without having to "lock them down" are pretty much over. Another case of the lazy and greedy minority imposing their will on the rest of us.
