Police are asking to motorists to avoid the Welcome Bay roundabout area if they can following a two-vehicle crash this morning.

Western Bay of Plenty road policing manager Senior Sergeant Ian Campion says police are working to clear the road following a nose-to-tail between a car and a truck on State Highway 29 at about 8am.

'At the moment we've got a traffic backlog and we're asking motorists to please avoid the area if all possible,” says Ian.

'We're trying to get the scene cleaned up as soon as possible to get traffic flowing normally, but there will be delays.”

Ian says there were no injuries as a result of the crash.
