Whakamarama Road is closed this morning following a crash which has taken out a power pole.
Powerco reports that power went down in the area just after 7.30am and is expected to be back on around 12pm.
Power is out in Whakamarama this morning following a crash.
A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says a car has crashed into a power pole, near Youngson Road, causing the pole to snap.
'There are currently live power lines on the road and police are at the scene.”
The caller says it didn't appear anyone was injured in the crash.
Motorists are being asked to use an alternative route until the power pole has been cleared from the scene.
Western Bay of Plenty road policing manager Senior Sergeant Ian Campion says people are advised to use Youngson Road.
"The road closure will remain until Powerco has made the lines safe."
How long this will take is not yet known.
