Stolen car crashes in police chase

A 14-year-old girl has been injured after crashing a stolen car into traffic lights while being chased by police.

The police pursuit began near Waikato Hospital about 9.45pm on Wednesday after the Ford Falcon was reported stolen.

Police are investigating the theft of a vehicle near Waikato Hospital.

The car was allegedly taken from the southern suburb of Glenview.

Senior Sergeant Greg Foster says the pursuit was abandoned as the car headed towards Hamilton's CBD.

The car was travelling on Hood St, turning right into Victoria St when it smashed into a traffic light.

The girl, who was the only person in the vehicle, was treated by ambulance at the scene.

No other vehicles were involved.

I hope these incidents go towards the crash stats which NZ are fixated about? Presumably this wasn't a 14 year old tourist!!

We can take comfort from the fact it was a Kiwi just learning the ropes. I'm sure the incident will be dealt with by Youth Aid and she will develop into a highly skilled Kiwi driver.
