Takitimu Drive was reduced to one lane for just under an hour after a car towing a trailer lost control in the wet near the Chapel Street off-ramp at about 5pm.

'The car has lost control in the wet conditions which has then caused the trailer to come off.”

The car and the trailer were able to be moved to the side of the road until two tow trucks were able to reach the scene of the crash to remove them.

But further north, Waikato Police are also warning motorists that SH2 has been closed in both directions between Te Aroha Rd in Paeroa and Dean Crescent in Waihi after a car smashed into a power pole.

The road is expected to be closed for up to three hours. Diversions are in place but police are asking motorists to avoid the area.
