SH2 re-opens after Apata crash

UPDATED: SH2 at Apata is re-opened following a serious crash Saturday night that resulted in three people being taken to Tauranga hospital, two of them with serious injuries.

The crash happened about 6pm. Diversions were in place and delays felt before the road was reopened around midnight.

Police are saying a Tauranga woman who was trapped in her van suffered moderate injuries. A Taurana man and a Katikati woman are in a serious condition in the Tauranga hospital intensive care unit.

The Serious Crash Unit is investigating the crash, which involed a head on collision between two cars on the Apata bends. Diversion were via Apata Station road.

Today: A person has died following a crash south of Waiouru on SH1.

The single vehicle crash happened just before 5.45am about half a kilometre south of Springs Hill.

The road was expected to be down to one lane for a short time as the Serious Crash Unit begins its investigation.

Yes, I know the lady in the van, & know her expertise in driving. I also know the on coming vehicle was at fault. When will people 'wake up', & stop whatever they shouldn't be doing, or if tired, PULL OVER. If they are in a rush, then they won't get there, due to mishap. Slow down, take a break if needed, & concentrate.
