UPDATED: 2.15pm. State Highway 2, through the Athenree Gorge, is closed following a crash in the area.
The NZ Transport Agency says emergency services are on site and the road has been closed.
Emergency services are dealing with a crash in the Anthenree Gorge.
People are being warned to avoid the area of delay their journey until the road is open.
A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says he was exiting Waihi Beach when he got turned around by police.
The Wellington police media centre says it looks like a truck has rolled. Police were called at 12:57pm. The truck is beleived to be blocking one lane. There are no other details.
A detour route is available.
Detour route: Southbound traffic exit at Waihi Beach Rd, Wilson Rd, Seaforth Rd (through Waihi Beach Township), Emerton Rd, Steele Rd, Athenree Rd back onto SH2. Northbound traffic can use the same route, but in the opposite order.
Exact details about the crash are not yet known.

The only reason an accident should happen on our roads would be medical event, heart attack etc. there are far to many accidents on our roads.

unless a medical event should occur while driving accidents shouldnt be happening.................
