Waikato Tactical Crime Unit senior constable Myles O'Donnell says Phillips' crimes include fradulently obtaining the identity of another person, as well as defrauding his then-retail employer and stealing money by transferring business refunds to his own bank card, among other methods.

'As well as our own investigations, police were provided with some excellent evidence. This allowed investigators to build up a file to prosecute our person of interest."

Mysles says Waikato Police is pleased Phillips was put before the courts and has been held to account for his actions.

His thoughts are with the victims of his crimes who have suffered a great deal of stress due to Phillips' actions.

'Phillips is a cunning individual. But in the end, as today's sentencing shows, he wasn't so smart. The sentencing serves as a reminder to criminals that the law will eventually catch up with them.”

Slap on the wrist with a wet bus ticket.Another pathetic sentence from a judge .The amount of time police would have spent on the cases from this one tool would be horrendous and the grief he has caused everyone .Very weak is all I can say

Wow such a huge sentence, the pain and trauma caused to others obviously has not been factored into that end result. The sentence is not exactly a discouragement to others is it?

Just another weak sentence handed out by the NZ justice system. Honestly don't know why the Police bother anymore.

So the punishment for every offence is 3 days at home! It makes thieving very appealing doesn't it? I wonder how many offences it takes to get some clink time. Pathetic.

Less than 4 days HD per offence. That will scare others from doing the same.

49 Offences

and absolutely no remorse shown. Home detention, how long before he is at it again. He has caused so much trauma to so many. This is not reflected in the sentence at all.
