Another weather watch issued

Just when you thought the cruddy weather was done and dusted – here comes the MetService with another severe weather watch for the Bay of Plenty and Coromandel.

A front is expected to move eastwards across New Zealand during Sunday which is likely to bring with a brief period of rain to both regions and much of the North Island.

The MetService has issues another severe weather watch for the Bay of Plenty and Coromandel. File Photo.

In the Bay and Coromandel, where conditions have become saturated over recent days, 20 to 40mm of rain could accumulate during Sunday.

'However with the risk of thunderstorms both with the frontal rainband and also for a time following it, there is a possibility that rainfall accumulations will be higher in localised places - possibly 40mm to 60mm.

'This amount of rain could exacerbate the already saturated conditions in these areas, causing rivers and streams to rise further, with possible surface flooding and slips.”

The MetService says the watch will be reviewed tonight by 9pm.
