More than four hundred runs were scored in the Western Bay of Plenty Reserve Grade encounter Mount Maunganui and Tauranga Boys College second eleven at Blake Park on Saturday.

Mount Maunganui won the toss and elected to bat with the Tauranga Boys bowlers having early success. Ben Guild then arrived at the crease and anchored his side's big score going on to belt 94 runs, as the Mount reached 248/7. Jason Luke made a solid contribution with 48 with Tauranga Boys bowler Dominic Crombie taking four wickets.

The Tauranga students made a good charge to take out the win points on offer, before the Mount Maunganui bowlers took charge of the match, to remove their opponents for 178. Andy Mascal and Dominic Crombie both reached the thirties, with Ben Guild and Karl Friend grabbing three wickets apiece for the victors.

Te Puke posted a solid win against Whakatane United with Josh Earl the star of the show. Te Puke were bowled out for 171, with Earl top scoring with a hard fought 53 not out. Daniel Price was also in good touch reaching 33 before being dismissed.

Josh Earl and Te Puke new season recruit Daniel Elyashiv did the damage with the ball, returning identical figures of three wickets at a cost of 19 runs. The Eastern Bay side were removed for 127 to give Te Puke a solid victory.

R&A Sangha cemented their second place on the point's ladder with a comfortable win over Aquinas College. The Indian team batted first and were removed for 189. GS Mahal top scored with 65 with Fergus Lellman impressing with the ball as he took four wickets for just 3 runs.

Three wicket bags from SS Hanzra, Vik Tiwari and LS Bhatti played a big part in Aquinas College being bowled out for 83, to give the Sangha XI a 106 run win.

Sikh Sports played with genuine enthusiasm to beat Otumoetai Cadets. Sikh Sports were bowled out for 159 with Jim van der Vorm and Campbell Wilson taking seven wickets between them. However JP Singh weaved plenty of magic with the ball to grab a five wicket haul, at a cost of just 10 runs, as his side restricted Cadets to 99/9.

The disappointing aspect of the weekend Reserve Grade cricket, was Katikati and Geyser City defaulting their matches, after agreeing to play during the Labour weekend holiday break.
