Vehicle fleeing from police crashes

UPDATED: A pursuit in the Bay of Plenty has ended in a two vehicle crash on State Highway 2, near Matata.

Police are at the scene of the crash in Pikowai.

A statement from police says the crash, which happened about 1.45pm, has resulted in minor injuries.

"One of the motorists had failed to stop for police and is now in custody.

"The road is open but motorists should expect delays."

Emergency services are at the scene of a multiple car crash on State Highway 2, near Pikowai.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says they believe police were chasing a vehicle before it crashed.

SunLive is working on getting confirmation on this from police.

The crash happened at around 1.40pm.

A police spokesperson says it's unknown at this stage if anybody is seriously injured.

St John paramedics have been called to the scene.

slap them with a heavy fine and then send them to get eye and hearing test....
