Blackcaps ready to take on Bangladesh

Bangladesh hasn't been able to take a trick off the Blackcaps through three ODIs and one T20 - but you won't hear the New Zealand team talking down the visitors from the subcontinent.

'They are a quality side,” says left arm quick Trent Boult who's hoping for a start in the second T20 against Bangladesh in front of a projected 10,000 strong home crowd at Mount Maunganui's Bay Oval on Friday afternoon.

'Bangladesh is obviously very strong at home and they are becoming stronger away from home. And they are still in the series so I imagine they will still be very strong, very competitive over the weekend” says Boult.

The Blackcaps are one up in the three match T20 series after winning the ODs three-zip. The second T20 is Friday at 3pm, while the third and possibly deciding match on Sunday, will also be played at Bay Oval.

Bolt was confronted by a sea of microphones and a substantial huddle of New Zealand and Bangladeshi media at a picturesque oval bathed in sunshine on Thursday afternoon, and was being very respectful to the visitors – even though they've enjoyed chances but haven't been able to press on and convert them.

'It's quite different for them to come to a place like New Zealand with a bit of grass on the wicket and see the ball carry like it does.”

He says there was evidence the Bangladeshis were definitely up for a fight during the first T20 in Napier earlier this week.

'They were running from all parts of the field to congratulate each other for good fielding. And there were some tidy catches taken.”

Boult's preference is the long form game. 'Test cricket is the pinnacle for me, it's the format I love most but you can't go wrong bringing in a big crowd and seeing the ball go sailing out of the park. T20 is very exciting.”

Despite the Blackcaps winning way against Bangladesh, motivation is still running high - there's a series on the line.

And even though that series could be wrapped up tomorrow, Boult says the Blackcaps still need to put the best team on the park and turn on its best possible performance.

Blackcaps all rounder and Bay cricketer Corey Anderson speaking with Sun Media journalist Hunter Wells.

Also in the equation for a start tomorrow is home grown Corey Anderson.

'I hope I can get a crack this weekend and show my stuff 'says the hard hitting left hander. But, he too is wary.

'The T20s have probably given Bangladesh more of a chance tomorrow. It's about those little moments in a game and if a couple of their guys get going that maybe all it takes to win a match.”

Anderson says Blackcaps fans nearly that saw in Napier.

'We thought we would cruise home and then we got the speed wobbles before Kane Williamson and Colin de Grandhomme got us home reasonably comfortably.”

Beyond this weekend's T20 double header and two test matches against Bangladesh. Anderson sees a much bigger menace massing on the horizon.

'The guys would have been reasonably disappointed with the outcome in Australia.” The Aussies slapped the Blackcaps three-nil in the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy series late last year. They get a chance to steal it back starting the end of January.

'I don't think it was a train wreck. A few tweaks here and there and it can change a game completely. It would be a great effort to put that trophy back in our cabinet.”

In the meantime there is the small matter of a T20 series at home.

'The Bangladeshis have some firepower and they have some decent bowlers.

'It's nice to come home and play. I guess it's the whole deal. The beach, the mount, the grass embankments, the weather. We love our boutique grounds in New Zealand and we know all the opposition teams love to come and play here at Bay Oval.”

The second and third T20 matches between the Blackcaps and Bangladesh both take place at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui on Friday, January 6, at 3pm, and then on Sunday, January 7, also at 3pm.
