Traffic jams all day

Hundreds of motorists are stuck in traffic on State Highway 2 this afternoon. Supplied Photos.

Traffic is, once again, almost at a standstill along State Highway 2, southbound towards Tauranga.

Several callers to the SunLive newsroom have noted the line stretches all the way from Bethlehem to Esdaile Road, near Pahoia School.

One caller remarked he had been out twice today, in the morning and afternoon, only to find the traffic situation the same.

'I think Simon Bridges ought to drive this route,” he says.

Traffic has naturally worsened over the holiday period, and Blackcaps game at the Mount may also be a factor.

Traffic was backed up along the harbour bridge earlier today in the lead-up to the game.

I don't understand why people think this is a government problem Tauranga city council seem to be able to take the revenue from subdivisions but can't spend it on infrastructure Why wasn't works like the Temanga to Girvin Road flyovers done to coincide with the opening of the TEL

Our seemingly short trip from Waihi Bdeach back into Katikati, a 22km trip took 55 minutes and didnt get out of 1st gear... no accidents...just Holiday Traffic Expect Delays?? Enough to make you stay at home

Way beyond Esdaile Road

I came onto that road at 2.45pm, at Tuapiro Road, the other side of Katikati. It took me 1 hour and 50 minutes to get to Tauranga. Bumper to bumper, much of the time stationery.

Our 22kms trip from Waihi Beach to Katikati took us 55 minutes along SH2! Travelling in 1st gear ... "Expect Delays Holiday Traffic" is an understatement. This is when accidents do happen.

Suggest that

the extension cord required for Simon's electric car would not reach that far.

HIDEOUS

Having lived in the area, I have NEVER seen traffic as bad as it has been this holiday period. The problem seems to be exacerbated around the Bridge where many motorists are shooting off taking short cuts, from Clarke and Snodgrass Rds, then expecting to re-enter near Station Rd near the Wairoa Bridge. Yes, it's courteous to let some motorists in but they need to allow the traffic to flow. All day of stop-start affects traffic flow for all motorists. The road is a State Highway hence the local govt has no jurisdiction, it is an NZTA (Govt) issue which needs immediate attention. Our local Minister, Simon Bridges, is the Minister of Transportation and we appeal to you to address this frustrating matter urgently.

I have no expectation of Simon Bridges' interest in this problem , its not good PR so he can't have photos with the PM opening something, and he probably has never heard of OMOKOROA.Clearly its time for the Northern by pass.
