The Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to Te Puke at 7:45pm yesterday evening, where a 38 year old male dived into a swimming pool and suffered a serious neck injury.
The New Zealand Fire Service cordoned off a nearby local park for the helicopter to land.
St John paramedics stabilised the patient and drove the patient from the scene to the park.
The seriousness of the injury required the patient to be flown to Auckland's Middlemore spinal unit.
A spokesperson says the flight was conducted under night vision goggles.
