Corey cuts loose at Bay Oval

Blackcap Corey Anderson had told SunLive he hoped to 'get a crack” at Bangladesh at the weekend.

He got that opportunity at Bay Oval yesterday and it was a record breaker.

The powerful lefty struck a swashbuckling and match defining 94 not out, including 10 sixes as the Blackcaps swept aside Bangladesh three-zip in the last of the three Twenty20 series.

The 10 sixes were the most in a Twenty20 for the Blackcaps and it was Anderson's highest international Twenty20 score, whacked off just 41 delivered.

The Blackcaps won by 27 runs, but only after another shaky start.

They were 41/3 after six overs, before Anderson and skipper Kane Williamson (60) came together and pushed the score out to a respectable 194/4.

The duo added 124 for the fourth wicket to set a new New Zealand record, surpassing the 123 set in Friday's Twenty20 match by Colin Munro and Tom Bruce.

Corey Anderson was happy with his big outing yesterday but not satisfied. He says he will improve with the bat when he starts bowling again.

He's hampered by a niggling back injury which removed him from the bowling crease earlier this seas.

The would-be all-rounder says he's working quietly on his back and when he's back bowling he believes he will be a more complete player. He's reluctant to put a time frame on it.

Bangladesh needed 195 to pick up their first win on their New Zealand tour but despite a positive quick scoring start, they pulled up short on 167/6 off their twenty overs.

Bangladesh and the Blackcaps now play two tests – the first starting on Thursday at the Basin Reserve in Wellington and the second at Hagley Oval in Christchurch on January 20.
