The Bay of Plenty Provincial Sevens teams are all set for action at this weekend's Bayleys National Sevens at Rotorua International Stadium.

Bay of Plenty men's sevens coach Paul Tietjens has named a strong line-up for this weekend.

The team captained by the experienced Matt Clutterbuck will feature the inclusion of All Blacks Sevens players Scott Curry and Regan Ware.

Coach Paul Tietjens says it's important to focus on one game at a time this weekend.

'For us it is about taking the tournament game by game, starting with Canterbury on Saturday morning. We can't really get too far ahead of ourselves past Canterbury because they are the first game we need to be focused for. Hopefully if we play well enough it will put us in good stead for the rest of the tournament.”

He says having Scotty Curry and Regan Ware will help make up for the loss of Teddy Stanaway to a minor neck injury.

'They are two key players who hopefully can gel well and add a lot to this side. I think if those two guys put in some good performances the others will follow their leadership. It is great to have them playing at a provincial level, it is great to watch and will give the other guys around them experience to play at their level.”

The Bay of Plenty women's team will be co-captained by Victoria Edmonds and the experienced Black Ferns Sevens player Kelly Brazier. The team will also feature the return of Black Ferns Sevens player Michaela Blyde and the illusive Autumn Stephens.

Coach Victoria Grant says her side is relatively young.

'However as we have shown over the past couple of tournaments we can hold our own. We will be focusing on each game as it comes; ensuring we capitalise on opportunities we create and minimising opportunities for our opposition.

'The girls have been training hard and pushing one another, if they keep working as a team the rest will hopefully fall into place.”
