Vehicle rescued from Papamoa surf

A 4X4 stuck on the beach in Papamoa yesterday. Photo/video: John Howlett.

It took two 4WD vehicles and several people around three hours to rescue a 4X4 stuck in the tide mark on Papamoa Beach.

John Howlett witnessed the event, which unfolded around 2.45pm.

A video posted to Youtube shows attempts to tow the vehicle from the beach.

'The rope snapped three times. They finally managed to tow both boat and 4x4 off the beach,” says John.

'It took two 4x4s to do it. They were apparently launching the boat. I'm surprised no one got hurt."

The vehicle was finally towed from the beach around 5pm.

must think flick the button to 4WD and she'll be right. Suggest these ning nongs do 4WD training and those towing need some educating too! Lucky no one got their head taken off when that rope snapped.. unreal the ignorance.
