Hospice van stolen in burglary

Waipuna Hospice's Brook Street depot in Tauranga was ransacked overnight, and the organisation's van, tools and a laptop stolen.

Staff have appealed on Facebook for help from anyone who has seen the van or any suspicious activity at Brook Street overnight.

A police spokeswoman says the property had been locked and secured, but it's possible the offenders gained entry through a side door.

"The entire building has been completely ransacked. They've just rifled through everything."

If you have seen the van since or have information that will help police track the stolen property or people responsible, call Tauranga Police on 07 577 4300.

Alternatively, information can be left anonymously via the Crimestoppers 0800 555 111 line.

Cut their hands off

is what they'd do in the old days - that would stop their pilfering once and for all. I don't care they are starving or want to feed their drug habit - to steal off a hospice is the absolute lowest. Jail would just be another free ride for them.

Almost. Time to deal severely with these scumbags. Anyone who would steal from a charity like Waipuna does not deserve any mercy from the community and should be isolated. Lets hope they are tracked down and that the Courts impose the maximum penalty for their actions. If the Courts fail to act we may need to consider alternatives.
