Boy hurt falling from tree

A nine-year-old boy sustained serious injuries after falling from a tree in Waihi Beach.

The Tauranga-based Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to Waihi Beach around 1pm yesterday to transport the boy to hospital.

Pilot Todd Dunham says the boy suffered a serious leg injury and abdominal injuries.

'A road ambulance drove the patient to the Waihi Beach airfield where they met the helicopter.

'St John paramedics stabilised the patient before being flown to Waikato Hospital for further assessment and treatment.”

Todd says the helicopter was called due to the nature of the injuries and distance by road to the closest required hospital.
