'Legend of the Seas' arrives in Tauranga

More than 1800 tourists will spend the day milling about Tauranga with the arrival of cruise ship Legend of the Seas this morning.

The Royal Caribbean vision class cruise ship arrived at the Port of Tauranga from Auckland at about 7:45am and is scheduled to depart for Napier at 7:45pm.

The 264m long vessel with a gross tonnage of 70,000, a draft of 7.5m and a cruising speed of 22 knots is the 34th cruise ship to visit the Bay of Plenty this season and is carrying an estimated 1832 passengers and 726 crew.

Legend of the Seas' features 11 decks, six pools and whirlpools, eight bars and lounges, plus a rock-climbing wall, u Upper-deck jogging track, 12-hole miniature golf course, video game arcade and a 603m2 Vegas-style casino.

It's visit today is part of the biggest cruise ship season on record for the Bay, with 83 ship visits scheduled, carrying 153,000 passengers – including five ships berthing overnight in Tauranga.
