Respecting the many differences

The world hadn't heard of Megan Sarah Louise Walton before Monday. Five days later and I am wishing I still hadn't heard of her. She's the 27-year-old who spewed that racist and foul-mouthed poison at the young Muslim woman Mehpara Khan. A mature drunken unemployed person of no fixed abode telling a young, non-drinking professional that she has no place in this country. 'Muslim B…. that needed to f… off” was her basic sentiment. That's the absolute senselessness of racism. Walton has since said she was sorry. I sincerely hope she is. But not as sorry as the rest of us New Zealanders, who embrace and respect difference in whatever form. I hope you can find some comfort in that Mehpara.

What if we consider the two main players here. One is a person with mental health issues that has been trying to get help for her condition The other is a PR professional and islamic activist Make you just a little suspicious? Did we see what happened before camera video? No? After all the ructions at Waitangi and other places in front of tv cameras and media and squads of police now and only now Susan Devoy and Mike Bush speak out against hate speech and want some new laws Hmmmm?
