Body confirmed to be Carissa Avison

Police have formally identified the body of a woman found in Woodhill Forest, Muriwai on Wednesday night.

In a statement, police say the body is that of 21-year-old Carissa Avison who was reported missing in Auckland late last month.

'Police's thoughts are with her family and friends at this time.”

Carissa was last seen at the Hunting and Fishing store in Rosedale on Auckland's North Shore at about 10am on Thursday, January 26.

She hitched a ride from there to Coast Road in Muriwai, arriving at about 11am, and had not been seen since.

Following her disappearance Search and Rescue teams had focussed their efforts on the forest.

Her death has been referred to the Coroner.
