A man is due to appear in Tauranga District Court on Monday after leading police on a chase through Mount Maunganui.
Police received a driving complaint from a member of the public just before 6pm on Totara Street.
'Police located the driver, who was driving erratically, speeding and failed to stop for police,” says a police spokesperson.
'The driver eventually decamped from their vehicle and fled from police on foot.”
The driver was located near the golf course and subsequently arrested.
The 32-year-old man is due to appear in Tauranga Court on Monday on charges of reckless driving, failing to stop and breath alcohol level over 400 mcgs per litre of breath.
A witness to the arrest says when the man 'had a spit mask on and he was yelling and resisting police when they were putting him in the police car”.
