Serious crash near Otamarakau

UPDATED 10.45AM: A rescue helicopter has been dispatched to the scene of a head-on collision near Otamarakau.

Northern Fire Communications shift manager Jarron phillips says one person is seriously injured as a result of the two-car crash near the Otamarakau rest area on State Highway 2, north of Matata.

'Two other people were also injured in the crash, one suffered minor injuries and the other sustained moderate injuries.

'The helicopter is on the way and a landing zone has been setup. The patient who sustained serious injuries will be airlifted to hospital.”

Jarron is advising motorists one lane of SH2 is currently blocked as a result of the crash. Traffic management is in place and delays are likely.

Fire crews from Matata, Maketu and Pukehina were dispatched to the crash which occurred shortly after 9.30am.

EARLIER:

Emergency services are rushing to the scene of a two-car crash near Otamarakau.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says two vehicle have crashed head-on near the Otamarakau rest area on State Highway 2, north of Matata.

Injuries are unclear at this stage.

Motorists are being advised to expect delays or avoid the scene if possible.
