A young boy has been airlifted to Waikato Hospital following a crash between a truck and a ute in Waihi.

A police spokesperson says the boy was a passenger in the ute when it collided with a truck, possibly a rubbish truck, on Kenny Street shortly after 8am.

'The young boy sustained serious injuries and has since been airlifted to hospital.

'The driver of the ute driver suffered moderate injuries as a result of the crash.”

Emergency services including fire and St John ambulance staff attended the crash.

A section of Kenny Street was closed for about an hour due to the crash.
