Who is hoaxing who?

Re: ‘The tide is turning – people are waking up' (The weekend Sun, February 24).

I was tempted to ignore R Smith but couldn't. Youtube reports the video he mentions is unavailable. Ask Youtube why.

I couldn't let his phrase ‘vague records' go unchallenged. Do the maths - Google gives '361.9 million square km” to the query 'total surface area world ocean”.

Now calculate how much water you need to add a cubic centimetre depth to that area. Those ‘vague records' dating back to 1880 give roughly 27 cubic centimetres added to the world ocean's depth. Could R Smith please inform us where that water came from? It should make an interesting science project for secondary school science students.

Google gives interesting answers to the query ‘glacier shrinkage', including www.niwa.co.nz/news/new-zealand-glaciers-shrinking and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Retreat_of_glaciers_since_1850.

I say the two are linked due to increasing atmospheric carbon dioxide. R Smith says they are not.

the Youtube video you refer to is totally available for all to see, please leave the period off the link and you will have availability of this knowledge. Perhaps one of the failings of our thoughts is the inability to recognise that many have different points of view, and indeed technology is well past many. I "asked myself why" as you suggest and quickly came to this conclusion. Furthermore, if you truly believe "NIWA" science, and even consider anything that is expelled from Wikipedia without doing basic research, then there is no hope for rational discussion.Hoaxing?...not necessarily....not understanding?...absolutely!

Confused?

I tried to make sense of W Parish trying to get technical but he mixes up his linear measurements with his cubic ones so I gave up 27 cubic centimetres is a mere drop in the oceans bucket
