Discussing the city's transportation

Public transport is being talked bout on Friday. Supplied photo.

The future of how buses and bikes are to be fitted into Tauranga public transport networks are subjects for discussion in an all day workshop meeting at Tauranga City Council today.

The public meeting began at 9am with a workshop and break-out session on the Tauranga Programme Business Case.

The PBC is an NZ Transport Authority tool that considers a broad mix of activities that might be delivered by multiple parties over a period of time.

The Tauranga programme business case links to the new local authority partnership led by Bay of Plenty Regional Council which looks to make public transport play a bigger role, by ensuring Tauranga's wider transport plans and investment over the next 30 years are directed to help achieve this outcome.

The Public Transport Committee is a partnership between Bay of Plenty Regional Council which funds and delivers public transport and other local transport partners – The NZ Transport Agency, Tauranga City Council, Rotorua Lakes Council and Western Bay of Plenty District Council.

This group contributes to the $13 million invested annually into public transport and is looking at how the Western Bay of Plenty Public Transport Blueprint project and the Tauranga Programme Business Case can be better aligned to ensure funding is maximised to achieve better public transport use.

These buses in town at 7am waiting for people on a Sunday, what a waste, during the day there is only one person on board,ALSO,i would like to see the 2 bus stops in Grey st removed,(are people to lazy to walk 100 mtrs)to willow street bus stop, for gosh sake TCC this would free up parking,to have 2 in grey street is STUPID, Last bus should be 6 oclock, after that find your own way home, this would save $thousands a year,(weekly) 1 kid on a bus to matua for gosh sake this must cost $hundreds a day, also having bus stops every 100 mtres down Cameron road is stupid as well, especially out side business shops (STUPID) people need exercise it would not hurt for them to walk from 3rd ave to town, instead of bus to Willow st,phew,No1 Sunlive Thankyou 10-4 out.PS this is going to be havingmoremeetingsLunchmoremeetings,

Golly gosh is obviously a car owner with no regard for other people whom dont own vehicles and are dependent on public transport and no regard for the environment. If anything, Tauranga would benefit from better public transport and additional services. Unfortunately, and I know this as an ex bus user, the service in Tauranga is substandard. For students wanting to get to Windermere from Papamoa whom need to start class at 8.30am (or staff who need to start work) this is impossible as there is no linking service and you would have to get a 6.30am bus from Bayfair to get there. This is so backwards. Also no buses on an evening from town or from the Mount on a weekend. What if people want to go out and have a drink..wouldn't it be good to have bus services to discourage drink drivers.

Are we living in an expanding city or Smallville. If there were more buses then people would have better access to bars and restaraunts and be able to enjoy themselves without paying extortionate rates in taxis..that's why most people stay home and the night life in Tga is non existent. Move with the times Tauranga and get a decent transport system. Less cars on the road equals less carbon emissions. It's not 1970 anymore and the bus system here is archaic.

The decision making ability is the issue here. Example the Willow Street bus stop was widely criticized and many pushed for Cameron Road ... TCC staff decided that they wanted Willow St, went through the motions, got to the desire or preferred option (just one, theirs) and you guessed it Councillors whacked it with the blind rubber stamp thing again. Now they all realise that was not a good plan and want to rip it down and move it to Cameron Road (like that now is their idea) and so millions will be wasted of ratepayers monies yet again. No accountability, no reason, just a predetermined desire of "be reasonable ... do it my way ... You can not ask any person with but a penny of common sense or more to take this lot at TCC seriously.
