A woman accused of murdering her husband will remain behind bars until her next court appearance.

The 61-year-old woman, who has been granted interim name suppression, entered no plea to one count of murder when she appeared in Hamilton District Court on Monday.

The accused was arrested on Saturday night after police were called to a flat in Te Aroha Street, Claudelands, around 11pm.

The victim was a 55-year-old man. Police have not yet released the name of the deceased.

During her appearance in court yesterday, Judge Noel Cocurullo ordered the woman to undergo a psychiatric evaluation before her next appearance on March 21.

While she was remanded in custody, the accused's lawyer indicated they will be applying for bail at a separate hearing date.
