Police are investigating the circumstances of a car fire in Tauranga overnight.

A car parked on Hampton Terrace caught fire around 10.40pm.

It's unclear if anyone was in the car when the fire started.

A police spokesperson says details about the incident are limited but confirmed to SunLive that police were called to a car fire on Hampton Terrace 10.39pm last night.

'Fire and police attended the job and the police inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the fire are ongoing.”
