The nine members of the Heart of the City Technical Advisory Group have been named.

They are: Graeme Horsley (Chair), Buddy Mikaere, David Hermann, Joanna (Jo) West, John Duffy, Dr Les Matthews, Rachel Pinn, Rebecca Ryder and Richard Harris.

The group, which previous advertisements said is chosen for its expertise across a number of disciplines, will consider the design aspects of publicly delivered projects in the city centre, and will provide recommendations to the City Transformation Committee and Council on the way forward.

Some examples of projects include new streetscape, open space and waterfront projects, the civic administration building, and business cases for the city library, museum and performance venue.

City Transformation Committee Chair Larry Baldock, who was on the interview panel, is impressed by the calibre of applicants and their passion to see the transformation of the heart of the city.

'The final appointments reflect the purpose of TAG, the mix of skills, expertise, experience and attributes sought in the Terms of Reference and the panel's assessment of individual's capability and capacity to make objective and valuable contributions to the future of the Heart of the City Programme,” says Larry.

'They are a high performing group of people that will be committed to achieving the purpose of the TAG and our overall objective of creating a more vibrant, safe and successful city centre.”

The Committee agreed to appoint nine TAG members as opposed to seven, at its meeting on 7 March 2017.

'Having nine people on the TAG enables Council to receive advice from a comprehensive range of experts with particular strengths in areas relevant to the Heart of the City programme. It also ensures a balance of understanding of content and governance approach that will be applied to TAG processes.”

The first TAG meeting will be in April 2017.

It would be nice to know the actual credentials of this group! One would have supposed that council staff already had this expertise! We now have 9 more snouts in the trough!

Welcome to the TAG Team

Can I respectfully suggest you do your homework before bursting into print. This (TAG) group are volunteers who bring scope and vision to the CBD's transformation, attributes that are lacking within TCC ranks. Max LewisMt Maunganui.

If you are correct then it is indeed commendable that these good folk are offering their services and expertise for no monetary gain.I would have thought that had this been the case - then why does the above article not mention it?I would appreciate further confirmation that you are correct!

but it would be interesting to find out how long each have been residents in the area?, and besides Buddy what their credentials actually are, also for me as I have stated over the last few years, the CBD is dead, a shame but that just the way it is and no end of committees and ratepayer spend is going to kick start it!!!, it's soul has gone!, $10 Tauranga at its best, a mish mash of nothingness!!!, how so called great minds are going to resurrect a soulless city centre is a waste of time and money, 5 years ago when the " boat people" extravaganza was commencing I could understand, now the boat has sailed along with a vibrant city centre!, many of a so called creative bent and some councillors have left us with $2 shops and empty buildings.
