Man dies in Welcome Bay crash

The serious crash unit is investigating a crash following the death of a man in Welcome Bay.

Emergency services were called to the fatal crash on Welcome Bay Road, near Kairua, around 2.30pm.

The crash was between a car and a truck and police have confirmed that a man dies following the crash.

'No-one else was injured,” says a statement from police.

The stretch of road was closed several hours as a crash scene investigation was completed.

People with information about the crash, and haven't already spoken with police, can contact Tauranga Police Station on 07 577 4300.

.....deepest condolences to the family of the person killed, and sympathy to the truckie, but if I'm not mistaken, from the photos shown, it's a bit of the road that has needed repair for AGES, it's lumpy and bumpy and if you are not aware of the fact, you can easily end up over the white line. Why does it take something like this to happen before roads get repaired? So sad. It's also a bend that some like to cut the corner on. I travel that road a lot, and kind of hold my breath if I happen to meet a car coming from the other direction, hoping they are aware of the uneven nature of that bit of road.
