Ladies and gentleman, boys and girls, welcome to Saturday and the first day of the weekend.

Possible showers are forecast for the afternoon, so pack a brolly if you're heading out to The Bayleys International Raceday at Tauranga Racecourse in Greerton, or the Bay of Plenty Championships at Baypark Speedway in Mount Maunganui.

The Bayleys International Raceday hosted by Racing Tauranga will a full day of thoroughbred racing action – including feature race of the day, the Group 2 Windsor Park Stud Japan-New Zealand International Trophy – with gates opening 10.30am.

While there'll be plenty of action on the field, there's a ton of excitement off it too, with the glamorous Shiseido Fashions in the Field event, live music and a ton of free entertainment for the children.

The annual meet is Tauranga's richest and most glamorous sporting event, and this year's it's set to feature on free to air television in Australia after the New Zealand Racing Board negotiated with Racing.com for five race meetings to be broadcast across the ditch earlier this year.

The Bayleys International Raceday hits Tauranga Racecourse in Greerton today, gates at 10.30am, racing starts 12.30pm. General admission costs $10, entry is free of children 17 and under. For more information, visit: racingtauranga.co.nz

Drivers from all around the North Island will descend on the Mount to fight for the six titles up for grabs in the Sprint Cars, Super Saloons, Saloons, Stock Cars, 6 Shooters V6 Wingless Spint Cars and Mini Stocks classes.

The Bay of Plenty Championships at Baypark Speedway kicks off at 6.30pm. Adults cost $20, seniors and children (5 -16 years old) cost $10, and Family Passes (two adults, three children) cost $50. For more information, visit www.bayparkspeedway.co.nz
