Free nitrogen use seminar in Reporoa

Farmers needing help to understand their farm nitrogen reports are being invited to a free seminar taking place in Reporoa on Wednesday.

Hosted by Ballance Agri-nurtients, the Dairy Women's Network and Fonterra, The Understanding Farm Nitrogen Reports Seminar will take place at The Woolshed Tavern on Broadlands Road.

Nitrogen use on farms is coming under increasing scrutiny because of its possible links to water quality, and the seminar aim to teach farmers how to record, interpret and act on farm nitrogen reports effectively.

The information in farm nitrogen report, produced annually by dairies company, reflects what's happening on farm and indicates where changes could result in improvements.

Presented by Ballance experts, Thursday's the seminar is designed to give farmers practical guidance for managing nitrogen on farm and will cover finding the data needed and interpreting the results, five factors of nitrogen loss and how farmer can influence them, plus practical ideas for improvement.

At lunchtime attendees will also have the opportunity to talk with a Waikato Regional Council representative about the proposed Healthy Rivers plan.

Those who attend will receive a resource workbook, to record nitrogen management goals. Questions are welcome, and representatives from Ballance and Fonterra's Nitrogen Management team will also be available for a chat.

The Understanding Farm Nitrogen Reports Seminar takes place at The Woolshed Tavern on Broadlands Road, Reporoa.

Registration at 9.45am, with the seminar running from 10am to 1pm. Optional one-on-one session and/or discussion with regional council representatives takes place at 2pm.
