Tauranga farewells final cruise ship

People wanting to say goodbye to the last cruise ship of the season will get their chance this evening.

Registered in the Marshall Islands, Sirena has a gross tonnage of 30277, and a length of 181 metres.

The Sirena is the 80th cruise ship of the season, making a visit on Saturday and returning this morning from Auckland.

This evening it leaves for the Bay of Islands with 643 passengers and 402 crew members on board.

This latest cruise ship season has been particularly busy, with 80 ships, 150,000 passengers and more than 64,000 crew members visiting Tauranga since last October.

It has also been the first season for cruise ships – four in total – staying in port overnight.

This season also marked the inaugural visit to New Zealand from Ovation of the Seas, the fourth largest cruise ship in the world, which docked at the Port of Tauranga three times.

The Sirena will be sailing at 7pm.
