Police investigating the fatal crash near Tokoroa on April 21 have established no tanker was involved in the crash, despite initial reports.

Taupo road policing manager Senior Sergeant Fane Troy says police have established that the two motorcycles involved in the crash were travelling in opposite directions.

'Both motorcycles collided head on in the southbound passing lane.

'As a result of the impact, one rider was thrown into the path of the tanker he was overtaking. The tanker was not involved in the collision.”

The two riders were not known to each other.

'Police continue to investigate and support the families of the deceased.”
