Not even the rain was going to stop fitness instructor Amy Finlayson and her crew from pounding it out in Tauranga today.

Amy was down at the Dance-o-Mat on The Strand leading the POUND for Pooches demonstration which aimed to introduce people to the new fitness craze and raise funds for the Tauranga SPCA.

POUND is one of the world's fastest-growing group fitness glasses and combines the fun of drumming with cardio, conditioning, and strength training, as well as aspects of yoga and Pilates.

'We're all having fun, getting our heart rates up and rocking out to the music with these bright green rip sticks which are lightly weighted drum sticks.

'We had some great weather. The rain held up for a bit and we wiped down the dance-o-mat so it was safe for everyone.”

Joining Amy today was a mix of pounders who've been attending her classes since February, alongside a few newbies who popped down to the Dance-o-mat to try their hand at POUND.

Speaking to SunLive earlier this week, Amy explained she was inspired to take up the fitness phenomenon as it combined her active lifestyle with her passion for drums, an instruments she's played since the age of eight.

She also chose to use the demo as a fundraiser for the SPCA due to the fact the charity only receive a small amount of government funding to help animals in need.

'I think it's important we support the SPCA locally because we have so many animals in Tauranga that need our help.”
