Morena and good morning Sunners, welcome to Saturday and the start of what should be a fantastic weekend.

With MetService forecasting plenty of sun today, the weather's looking perfect for the annual Tauranga Home Show at ASB Baypark Arena in Mount Maunganui, and Tauranga's first official bomb competition during the official opening of the waterfront Tidal Stairs on The Strand.

Are you currently building or renovating and are looking for some inspiration? Well, the annual Tauranga Home Show is the perfect place to start!

Organiser Dana McCurdy says the expanding population in Tauranga has led to a housing boom, bringing about a frenzy of new builds and subdivisions which has overflowed into outlying areas.

The resulting progress in roading and infrastructure, combined with our beautiful surroundings, means the Bay of Plenty is one of the most highly sought-after, progressive places to live in New Zealand.

'We have brought together some of the most experienced vendors in the area, offering home and land packages and custom builds in every option you can think of to help you become a part of these exciting developments,” says Dana.

If you're looking to modernise your existing home, it can be hard to know where to start. Don't miss out on the opportunity to browse and compare a range of suppliers all under one roof.

The Tauranga Home Show is on at ASB Baypark Arena today from 10am-5pm. Entry costs $10 for adults, and free for children 13 and under. For more information, visit taurangahomeshow.co.nz

Tauranga's first official bomb competition will make a huge splash during the official celebrations marking the opening of the waterfront tidal stairs today.

Kicking off at 12pm, competitors will show off their best manus, staples, roll bombs, coffins and Mangeres all for the chance to win awesome prizes and to take the title of Tauranga's first and best bomber.

To compete entrants need good swimming skills, and to get extra points, a great costume. Surf Lifesaving will be on site and educate about safe swimming on the day.

Other entertainment lined up for the family-friendly, free event being hosted by the Tauranga City Council includes street food, and live music from Auckland based Afro-beat band Ijebu Pleasure Club at the Edgewater Fan on the waterfront.

The Official Opening of The Tidal Stairs is on down at the waterfront on The Strand in the Tauranga CBD from 12-5pm. For more information, visit taurangastreetartfestival.nz
